Recycling Aerospace Aluminum Scrap into High-Performance Wrought Sheet and Near-Net-Shape Squeeze Cast Components

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Loukus Technologies will demonstrate recycling of a wrought 7XXX series aluminum alloy. By adjusting the alloy composition and optimizing the subsequent heat-treatment cycles, the team intends to demonstrate that they can produce a 7XXX secondary aluminum alloy that can be squeeze cast into nose cone-shaped components that can subsequently be rolled into wrought sheet products.
