This short course provides a brief introduction to the fundamentals of Design for Re-X. The motivating factors for Design for Re-X are described, and the four steps of the traditional engineering design process are articulated, including generating alternatives, estimating outcomes, making tradeoff decisions (often under uncertainty) and identifying the best design. Re-X processes are defined, particularly remanufacturing and recycling. The additional considerations Re-X brings to the four design steps are described.
